Everyone has an insect story. Usually when I mention to someone that I go to school to study bugs, that’s the first thing I usually hear. I like hearing bug stories…they can be amusing, and many times they can be a gateway for learning about these amazing creatures. I want to hear your bug stories. So please don’t be discouraged from sharing them because of the next paragraph.
I will not identify pictures of bugs. If I’m able and willing (and willing is the more important factor here…believe me), I might give you an order or a family…but that’s about it. I’d like to be able to identify everything…I really would. But there are millions of species of insects, not to mention the spiders, crustaceans and other jointed-legged critters that will get thrown into the mix. I’m also a very busy person…I’m going to school and I have all the work that goes with it. I simply don’t have the time to ID things on a regular basis.
However, I will happily give you the resources to identify the bug yourself. The two best resources that I’m aware of (and if you know of any better, please tell me) are bugguide.net and whatsthatbug.com. The latter actually includes a section where you can upload photos of your bug to get it ID’d. On the whatsthatbug link, feel free to kill some time by clicking on the links and reading the sections they’ve compiled.

eeeek. Have you ever met an insect demon? Freakkky.
