I am currently an entomology undergraduate at Iowa State University. My main area of interest is in applied evolutionary entomology-that’s looking at how insects change in response to management tactics and applying those observations to management.
Think of it as playing evolutionary chess with insects. We kill them, they adapt. We figure out their strategy to evade our management tactics and hit them back. They adapt. We figure out this new strategy, use it to kill them or modify our tactics to get around it. They adapt. So on and so forth ad infinitum.
This blog will generally be about insects. Expect some general science posts, some peer-reviewed research, philosophy posts…the general bloggage. I tend to blog about many of the journal articles I read on a daily basis so there will be a mix of older and newer peer-reviewed research. I may occasionally poke the discovery institute with a sharp stick when I feel like it.
I have recently changed the URL of my blog to incertae sedis, which means uncertain of placement in latin. I did this because that’s how I feel at the moment…I have no idea where the hell I’m going to end up, and truth be told I kind of like it that way. I don’t know where my place in the world is right now, and probably never will. In a way, we are all uncertian of placement.
Thus, I thought it was appropriate.
Post whatever you want…I don’t debate denialists. I generally won’t debate people from the comments. I don’t have the time or energy to do this. However, I’ll approve posts I don’t agree with even if I don’t intend to respond to them. If there’s a question that I feel is out of genuine curiosity, I’ll address it. However, if you say something brain-fryingly stupid and keep pushing me to debate you I’ll put you on the spam filter without a second thought. Actually…if you say nothing but things which make me wonder if you graduated grade school, I’ll give you the axe.
I will not tolerate bigotry of any sort. I hope this weblog inspires comments and intense debate amongst the readers, but at no point should debate spill over into racism and sexism…that kind of thing. Threats against me or others will be posted on here with full identifying information. If you threaten others, you will be banned without a second thought.
Spammers will not be tolerated.
In lieu of a long, drawn out rulebook I’ll point out that I’m pretty much in line with Pharyngula with what I will and won’t tolerate.

Cheshire…..
I like your post about the moths. Perhaps it is on purpose but your Blog title has misspelled windshield–clever title, however. Not trying to be a pain or anything so please take time to delete this comment from the public record whether you decide to correct the spelling or not. Thought I’d draw your attention to it just in case it was inadvertent.

I’m glad you liked the post. It’s nice to see that people aren’t only reading my blog, but finding the things I write about interesting. It’s hard to write about science so it’s interesting, so it’s always nice to hear I’m doing a good job.
About the banner…I noticed that a few days after I put it up. I’m working on another one but I’m not sure when that’s going to be up. I’ll definitely be using spellcheck this time around, though.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Hi Cheshire — I found your blog through Research Blogging… It looks like we are the only two who have tagged “Entomology” in our posts (surely there are others hiding behind “Biology”). Anyway, it’s an interesting blog you have here and I’ll be perusing for a bit now.
