Single parenthood and navigating the treachery of academia.

I tend to try to stay away from personal topics, because I like to blog pseudoanonymously for a multitude of reasons which are explained very well here (the exact same reasons, actually). So I’m not going to go into great detail about my situation. To be honest, if you go to ISU I’ve got to [...]

I’ve had a weird month.

Being an entomology student can be exciting a way that’s both intellectual and in a way that’s more like ‘WTF’. People are a lot more curious about insects than they let on, and I get a lot of questions about bugs in my everyday life as a student when I tell people what I’m studying.
However, [...]

Back at Iowa State!

I just started my new semester here at Iowa State and I’m friggin excited.
This semester is probably going to be one of my most important semesters while I’m here (if not THE most). I’m hoping to study evolution in medical pests, but I haven’t completely decided if I want to study pesticide resistance or the [...]

I am living proof against Intelligent Design

Take a look at Casey Luskin’s diagram in his most recent post over at Evolution News and Views.
Believe it or not, this diagram hits close to home to me.
You see, the very fact that I’m alive is proof positive that this diagram fails the most basic test of irreducible complexity. I have a part missing [...]

Youtube Gems: Allison Sudol

Every so often, you run into something which describes an aspect of your life in such a blunt manner it makes you wonder if the person knew you at some point in the past.
For me, this is one of those songs.

Finals, Living Away From School and School Accountability

So tomorrow I have my last final. It’s in a class I’m not particularly worried about failing, so that’s good. I’m not particularly stressed out over the test, but I’ve still been studying my ass off for two days straight. I should be fine. So that’s not what I’m worried about.
Unfortunately, I live about half [...]

And once again, we have an idiot unable to understand Athiests

Ray Comfort laments about how Athiests don’t have their own music.
I was listening to the Hallelujah Chorus of Handel’s Messiah recently and thinking about what atheists have as an equivalent. An equivalent? They don’t have a Bible, they don’t belong to a Church, they don’t have a relationship with God, and they don’t have their [...]

Someone gets it right

In response to the Nov. 20 letter, “Religion Can Help Prevent Suicides”: I am currently working on my doctor of ministry degree. My thesis is on how the Christian faith has dealt with suicide during its history. Being religious has nothing to do with whether or not someone will die by suicide.
The church has frowned [...]

I don’t know if you guys have been reading my blogroll…

…but if you haven’t, head over to Bug Girl’s blog and donate to the UN nothing but nets campaign.
It’s a great campaign…it’s a United Nations program which sends bednets over to Africa to help combat malaria. It’s actually a pretty effective method for preventing malaria transmission.
You can read more about it in Bug Girl’s [...]

Managed to survive Monday and yesterday…somehow.
Posting back to normal soon…as soon as the academic hangover wears off. You know how it is.
